Where is Lando - March 2023
Dreaming and drowning, just kidding.
Mostly…
Dear friend,
I hope this letter finds you well. If you’re in Georgia I hope you’re enjoying our most recent tease of spring and that the pollen hasn’t taken you under yet. If you’re further afield I hope this finds you just as well <3
The beginning of a new year is a time when I like to dream up potential collections, projects, and events for the coming months as well as reflect on the past year’s successes and learning experiences. It is one of my favorite new year rituals and is super helpful to refer back to later in the year when I find myself neck deep in a project and needing to take a step back to look at the big picture.
This winter though, I’ve been inundated with some great opportunities and inevitable stressors that have put my dreaming phase on hold.
These past few months I finished wrapping up the largest commission I’d undertaken to date, consisting of 18 paintings, 3 of which are the largest landscapes I had yet painted. Designed to hang in the nursery of two new parents these paintings feature pastel colors, fading sunset light, and many animals native to north Georgia. I’ll write a little more about that later with more pictures.
After wrapping up this project (well more like in conjunction with it than I’d like to admit) I then proceeded to undergo my annual anxiety melt downs associated with tax season. I’ve never been one to firmly grasp detailed and bureaucratic rules, especially when there’s no one to ask my endless questions to, and I can’t shake the feeling there’s an imminent threat of doom that will swoop down should I screw it up. I also have a history of misinterpreting instructions if they’re not very specific which has landed me in a good bit of trouble in the past (think Amelia Bedeilia) and left some lingering anxieties around paper work.
(Although I prefer to think of it as creative interpretation).
In the midst of these two events filled with both anxiety and excitement I also received the honor of my artwork being included in the Lyndon House’s 48th annual exhibit - a local art gallery here in Athens Georgia whose exhibit features artists local to the Athens area. These featured artists work in various styles and mediums and I am so honored to get to show my work alongside theirs.
My artwork and that of the other local artists will be on display through May 6. My two paintings on display, Autumn 4 and Autumn 5, are watercolor on paper and come from a small series I created shortly after moving from Rome Georgia to Athens. You can read more about the collection here.
I hope you’ll get to go see my artwork in person at Lyndon House gallery.
