What’s Happening in the Studio - March

HELLO!

What is happening in the studio???

Yes, I know, I am trying to be better about sharing what I am up to more often..!

(If I go quiet for a while, chances are I’ve either run out of pretty photos to share, I am resting, or I am just very deep into a painting project/deadline. Feel free check in though, I would love to hear from you!)

Usually spring time is a very exciting time in the studio and in our family. In that respect this year is no different! I am happily busy painting a new body of work, preparing for markets, and wrapping up two commissions for a new client!

Add to that weddings, social events, Luke’s (my husband) crazy school/sports schedule, volunteer work, tax season, and preparing to move cities (and house hunting…!) it feels like life is coming at us very fast right now.

Which is pretty exciting.

I am currently putting together a new landscape collection! It won’t be as cohesive as the last landscape collection. With that last mini series of paintings I enjoyed creating a more calm and collected feeling using a limited palette of cool greens and blues that were fairly consistent throughout. With this new collection greens and blues will still make a prominent appearance, but I will be incorporating new colors as well reds, yellows, tans, purples, and pinks. So fun!

Look at these colorful grasses! Can you see the hints of yellow flowers popping up?

I am approaching these paintings with a playful mindset. I love experimenting and trying new things in the studio. With this collection I am using new mediums and new colors!

I expect that each painting will stand out from the group. It made me so happy when my new painting materials arrived in the mail this winter. Nothing feels quiet like the promise of new paints. I could just see the possibilities rising up in my mind as I day dreamed about what I would make with them.

You can almost feel the summer heat rising from the fields into the cloud overhead.

My love of trying new things in the studio is why you really cannot count on any of my art collections being the same as the previous ones. If you see something you really love and want, you need to purchase it right away. The odds are, there will not be one like it again.

“…Odds are there will not be one like it again.”

So what are my new materials??

These mixed media landscapes are still painted with watercolors first, BUT I am sealing them in cold wax and adding accents and texture with oil paint pigment sticks!

Learning how to use cold wax and large pigment sticks required an adjustment to my original technique, but I think it is working out well!

Also pictured: two lovely thrifted frames and a giant pine cone because it makes me happy.

I have put this up coming collection on a brief hold for a week or two as I complete two commissions for the client. I will share more about this later once the client receives their artwork. I am terrible with deadlines though, so please wish me luck haha.

These are pictures of the two pieces very early on in the process. They are pretty much finished now. Once they are delivered to the client, I will share a lot more about them, final pics, the process, the inspiration etc.

It is my hope that my writing will improve as I make a point to write more letters, updates, and announcements to you guys here on my art/studio blog.

There will be another post here to announce the landscape paintings’ launch later this spring. I am really looking forward to sharing them with y’all!

As always, thank you for being here, for reading my words, and appreciating my art. The generosity of you showing up here in this space is not lost on me and it is a joy to get to share it with you.

Thanks <3
